PhD Student in Synthesis of Covalent Organic Frameworks for Flexible X-ray Detectors
The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the field of chemistry.
The department has 270 employees and a turnover of 300 million SEK. The six programs at the department conduct highly successful research of high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international collaboration, and we see continued good growth in our field. The department has educational assignments within engineering and master's programs. More information can be found on our website. https://www.uu.se/institution/kemi-angstrom (https://www.uu.se/institution/kemi-angstrom)
Job Description
Flexible X-ray detectors represent a future technology with applications in several scientific, medical, and technological fields. Our joint project, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, aims to realize flexible X-ray detectors by developing new high-Z covalent organic framework materials (COFs) that can meet the critical requirements for flexibility, X-ray absorption capability, and charge transport. You will focus on the synthesis of new COF materials and their fundamental electrochemical characterization. You will work alongside chemists, materials scientists, and component physicists to conduct your research, which will involve close and regular interaction with the other participating research groups at Linköping University (led by Professor Feng Gao and Professor Mats Fahlman) and Chalmers University of Technology (led by Professor Eva Olsson).
The main tasks within the PhD program are to conduct research. Teaching may also occur, but no more than 20% of the working time. The student will also take courses at the doctoral level related to the research topics. A successful PhD student is expected to perform high-quality research as part of a team, with the goal of disseminating the resulting work through publication in high-impact scientific journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
Qualifications
The applicant must have:
- completed a master's degree in chemistry or materials science or
- completed course requirements of at least 240 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 ECTS credits at the advanced level (of which 15 ECTS credits constitute independent work), with content relevant to the doctoral education or
- acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country
- very good knowledge of English, in both spoken and written form.
- basic electrochemistry knowledge
- the ability to express oneself clearly, document experimental work, and collaborate with others in a research environment.
Significant weight will also be placed on personal qualities such as good collaboration skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to have the ability needed to complete the doctoral education.
Desirable/Meritorious
Documented experience in the synthesis of COFs or metal-organic frameworks is meritorious.
